Nelson $10,000 award

Nelson is committed to empowering student success. That is why we created the Nelson Scholarship Program, a $10,000 award that recognizes grade 12 students for their work in the classroom and in their communities.


CIVIC LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP

Award amount: $10,000
Awarding students who have demonstrated academic success, personal strength, and determination in their commitment to civic engagement and leadership.

INDIGENOUS STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP

Award amount: $10,000
Awarding First Nation, Mรฉtis and Inuit student leaders who have demonstrated academic success, personal strength, and a commitment to preserving Indigenous languages and culture.

Clean Energy Scholarship

Clean Energy BC (CEBC) is pleased to be offering a student scholarship of $1,000.

The scholarship is available for students who are interested in pursuing a future in clean energy at a post-secondary institution.
 Eligibility
 Must be a BC secondary student (full-time, currently enrolled) that is graduating in 2020. Application Materials
 • Applicants must submit a 1-2 page paper (approximately 500 words) responding to the following question: “Why is clean energy important to me as a young person in BC?” Please cite any relevant experience with projects, volunteering, or community work, and indicate any future plans for involvement. Be sure to indicate the post-secondary institutions you have applied to, as well as any acceptances you have received!
• Applicants must additionally provide one letter of reference (must not be a relative). This could be from a teacher, a community representative, a religious/spiritual teacher, or a coach. The reference letter should speak to your character as a person.
• Please do not forget to provide your contact information – address, phone number, and e-mail.

Rotary Club of Deer Lake Scholarship

Rotary Club of Burnaby - Deer Lake Community Leadership Scholarship 2020 SCHOLARSHIP

DESCRIPTION This scholarship is awarded annually to a well-rounded student who has demonstrated strong citizenship and leadership skills as demonstrated through voluntary participation in community and school activities.

The scholarship shall be applicable towards post-secondary education or trades training at any approved institution.

ELIGIBILITY
To be considered for this scholarship, applicant students should have:
 ➢ demonstrated good citizenship and strong leadership skills.
➢ been actively involved in community service and / or volunteer work.
➢ been actively involved in youth initiatives, activities and events in the Burnaby community.
 ➢ been actively involved in school-based activities; and
 ➢ actively pursuing relevant school coursework.

GUIDELINES
 1. A scholarship of $1000 will be awarded to a Senior Secondary student in the Burnaby School District. Funds will be administered through the Rotary Club of Burnaby - Deer Lake.
 2. In order to be eligible for consideration: a. A student must complete a personal application; or b. A staff member at the student’s school must submit a nomination form.
 3. All applications / nominations are to be submitted directly to:

Remax Quest for Excellence Scholarship

RE/MAX 2020 Quest for Excellence®
The Quest for Excellence program is a bursary program for grade 12 students in Western Canada. It was established by RE/MAX of Western Canada to recognize the success and ongoing pursuits of Western Canadian students in regard to leadership and community contribution initiatives.
What is Awarded?
RE/MAX of Western Canada will award 16 bursaries of $1,000 each to qualifying Grade 12 students. In addition, each award includes a Certificate of Excellence signed by the Regional Executive Vice President of RE/MAX of Western Canada. Winners will be notified in April 2020.
Who Can Participate?
The Quest for Excellence is open to all Grade 12 students attending high school from September 2019 – June 2020. Grade 12 students may not have participated in graduation commencement ceremonies in the past. Applicants must be a resident of one of the following provinces/territories.
  1. British Columbia
  2. Alberta
  3. Saskatchewan
  4. Manitoba
  5. Yukon Territory
What is Required?
Students are to convey the contributions they have made to their communities in a short online essay, maximum 1,250 words. Key qualities students should demonstrate are leadership, motivation and communication skills. Other attributes may include volunteering, participation in charitable events or fundraising, and contributions that enrich the lives of others and their communities.

Additional Notes

Scholarships of $3,000 a year for full-time students and $1,000 a year for part-time students.  
The exact number of awards will be dependent on the number and ranking of qualified applicants.  17 scholarships were awarded in 2019.
  • Applicants must have documented hearing loss of 50dB or greater, pure tone average, in each ear (50dB or greater in the left ear AND 50dB or greater in the right ear);
  • Applicants must be attending an accredited post-secondary institution in the Fall of 2020 as first-time or returning students.

BC School Sports Leadership Scholarship

BC SCHOOL SPORTS STUDENT LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP 2019 - 2020 SUBMISSION DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2020

Overview BC School Sports is pleased to be contunuing our scholarship opportunity for two student-athletes (one male, one female) who will be enrolled as grade 11 students for the 2020-21 school year.
The two recipients of this scholarship along with a school based chaperone (athletic director, administrator or school based coach) will attend the National Federation of State High School Association (NFHS) National Student Leadership Summit (NSLS) in Indianapolis, Indiana from July 20-22, 2020.

The NSLS will focus on relevant and contemporary issues affecting today’s students in education-based athletics. Students will sharpen their leadership skills and will realize the privilege and power of their influence in their school and community.

Please see the included information from the NFHS. Criteria Each BCSS member school can nominate one male and one female student-athlete who will be enrolled at their school in grade 11 for the 2020-21 school year. These worthy individuals must be involved in school sport as well as be identified as a leader in the school community. The selected students must be accompanied by a school based chaperone. The chaperone will attend the conference as an adult ambassador.

Funding BCSS will pay 100% of the transportation costs for the two student scholarship recipients, as well as 50% of the chaperone’s transportation cost. NFHS covers all other expenses for both the students and chaperones: hotel room, materials, meals and local ground transportation.

 Student Application Instructions
Students wishing to apply must complete the application form on page 2 of this document and attach the following:
 • 400-500 word essay outlining why learning to be a better leader in school sports is important to you.
 • Letter of support from a school administrator (or his/her designate) certifying the applicant’s leadership skills and involvement in school sports. Application Deadline: Completed and signed application form, together with supporting documents, must reach the BC School Sports office by email (info@bcschoolsports.ca) no later than April 1, 2020.

The Lumen Society Scholarship

LUMEN Society is proud to announce that we will once again be offering a $1000 scholarship to a 2020 high school graduate. The LUMEN Scholarship will be awarded to a high school graduate who has been impacted by invisible illnesses. Applications are now open and will close on March 30, 2020 at midnight.
Invisible illnesses are health conditions that are not visibly apparent, including mental health conditions, autoimmune diseases, and learning disabilities. This scholarship is open to people who have been impacted by invisible illnesses in any way. Whether you have an invisible illness yourself or someone in your life has an invisible illness that has impacted you, you are eligible to apply.

Deadline is March 30, 2020

National Union Scholarship 2020


The deadline for applications is Monday July 6, 2020.
Ottawa (20 Jan. 2020) — Each year, the 390,000 member National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) offers scholarships of $2,500 each that reflect its pursuit of equal opportunity for workers. Entrants must be the children/grandchildren or foster children/grandchildren of members or retirees of the National Union’s Component unions or its affiliates and who are planning to enter the 1st year of a Canadian public post-secondary educational institution on a full-time basis in 2020. In addition, the newly added Young Worker Scholarship for those under 30 will award 2 scholarships of $2,500 each to members or children/grandchildren, or foster children/grandchildren of a National Union member or retiree and who are attending or planning to attend a public, post-secondary institution in 2020. 
All scholarships awarded will be based on the best 750–1,000 word essay as listed below. Essays will be marked on the basis of content and style. The deadline for applications and essays is July 6, 2020 and the 8 scholarships may have additional requirements, as noted below.

NEW FOR 2020 - Young Worker Scholarship

Two scholarships will be awarded to those under the age of 30 as of the application deadline and who are members or children/grandchildren, or foster children/grandchildren of a National Union member or retiree and who are attending or planning to attend a public, post-secondary institution in 2020.
The essay topic is: In what ways are unions still important in the contemporary workplace?

Brian Fudge Memorial Scholarship

In addition to the general requirements above, the applicants for the Brian Fudge Memorial Scholarship must be entering a field of study in policing, criminal justice, community services or health care.
The essay topic is: The importance of their field of study in either policing, criminal justice, community services or health care in delivering public services to Canadians.

Scholarship for Indigenous Students

In addition to the general requirements above, the applicants for the Scholarship for Indigenous Students must identify as indigenous. 
The essay topic is: The importance of quality public services in enhancing the quality of life of Indigenous Canadians.

Scholarship for LGBTQI2S Students

In addition to the general requirements above, the applicants for the Scholarship for LGBTQI2S Students must identify as an LGBTQI2S student.
The essay topic is: The importance of trade unions in supporting the LGBTQI2S community.

Scholarship for Students of Colour

In addition to the general requirements above, the applicants for the Scholarship for Students of Colour must identify as a person of colour.
The essay topic is: The importance of quality public services in enhancing the quality of life of people of colour in Canada.

Terry Fox Memorial Scholarship

In addition to the general requirements above, the applicants for the Terry Fox Memorial Scholarship must identify a disability.
The essay topic is: The importance of quality public services in enhancing the quality of life of people with disabilities.

Tommy Douglas Scholarship

There are no other requirements, other than the general requirements above, for applying for the Tommy Douglas Scholarship.
The essay topic is: How Tommy Douglas contributed to making Canada a more just and equitable society.

Deadline

The deadline for applications and essays is Monday July 6, 2020 and the winners and their essays will be published on the National Union and its Components’ social media sites in September 2020.
