Lisa Huus Memorial Fund $5000 Scholarship

Each year the Huus Family, in partnership with Children's Health Foundation of Vancouver Island (formerly Queen Alexandra Foundation for Children) and generous donors, award bursaries to support the education of students with disabilities.

The Lisa Huus Memorial Fund provides bursaries up to $5,000 annually per recipient, to assist persons with disabilities to undertake or continue their post-secondary education at an accredited post-secondary institution in British Columbia. Bursaries may be used for items such as tuition fees, textbooks, equipment, transportation, residence and support worker costs.

The bursary was established in 1988 by the family of Lisa Pauline Huus, a sociology student at the University of Victoria. "Lisa fought for her rights to go to university and be treated just like any other student," says her mother Annie Huus. "We established this fund so that students with physical challenges like Lisa can access much needed financial support to pursue their educational dreams."

Seaforth PAC Council scholarship

April 20, 2020

The Seaforth Parent Advisory Council is proud to be offering a $500 scholarship for École Seaforth Elementary School alumni. At École Seaforth Elementary School, our mission is to provide a happy, safe, supportive and challenging learning environment where our children learn to become compassionate citizens able to contribute in a global community.

With the spirit of citizenship at heart, the Seaforth scholarship is more community based than academic focused. While a respectable grade point average is expected, the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate how they provide leadership to younger members of the community as well as partnership with elder members in the same community. The student will demonstrate that a true leader guides those who need to know, while, at the same time, learns the value in the ability to follow and learn from others.
In a 500 word essay the eligible students must demonstrate how they have exemplified these qualities. While we encourage all to apply, we are looking for students that have gone outside of the home or classroom to make a difference in the community and make this community a better place to live.

Please include a brief letter of support for this scholarship from a teacher or a school/community official as well as the dates the student attended Seaforth.

All applications need to be submitted by May 29th 2020. Please submit applications to seaforth.PAC@burnabyschools.ca
